Open Security Exchange Builds Momentum As
Program of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization
Program to Create & Promote Enterprise Security
Management Specifications
September 15, 2003—PISCATAWAY, NJ—The
Open Security Exchange (OSE), an industry forum established in April
2003 to promote the integration between disparate components of
security infrastructure, today announced that it has now become the
newest program of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology
Organization (ISTO).
Delivering on its promise to have vendor neutral
administration, the OSE selected the IEEE-ISTO to provide strategic,
administrative and management support to the OSE, enabling members to
focus their efforts on the mission of promoting interoperability with
security systems, and educating the marketplace about security best
practices. Since its inception, the OSE has gained interest from
hundreds of organizations looking for guidelines to bridge the gap
between components of a security environment. The OSE also announced
that OSE subcommittees were formed to work on the next phases of the
program and that it will name its Board members during its first member
meeting to be held on October 1 in conjunction with the National
Security Summit (NSS), in Washington DC.
Initiated in April by four founding members (Computer Associates,
Gemplus, HID and Tyco Software House), the OSE is a cross-industry
forum that promotes security management by addressing the lack of
integration commonly found in today’s security infrastructure. Industry
experts agree that the need for physical and IT security
interoperability is real. The OSE drives the creation and adoption of
interoperability specifications by working closely with existing
standards bodies. Implementation of OSE’s interoperability
specifications helps organizations reduce costs, while leveraging their
existing security infrastructure to maximize operational efficiency.
“We are pleased to welcome the OSE as the newest program of the ISTO,”
says Peter Lefkin, ISTO’s COO/CFO. “We look forward to working with OSE
members to facilitate the development of the specifications, and the
marketing and interoperability activities that will support
implementation and acceptance of the specifications in the
marketplace.”
Leveraging the diverse expertise of its members, the OSE
plays the integral role of security advisor to organizations worldwide.
It provides subject-matter expertise in the area of security management
to law enforcement agencies, government and commercial organizations,
educational and professional organizations.
“The Founding Members of the Open Security Exchange are
very happy to work with the IEEE-ISTO”, said Eric Maurice, acting
chairman of the Open Security Exchange, “IEEE-ISTO brings to the
Exchange a proven record of excellence in supporting a vendor neutral
approach to the promotion of interoperability and standards in the area
of security management.”
About OSE
Dedicated to promoting the adoption of interoperability
specifications in the area of physical and cyber security, the Open
Security Exchange was founded by Computer Associates International,
Inc. (http://ca.com), Gemplus (www.gemplus.com), HID Corporation
(www.hidcorp.com) and Tyco Software House(www.swhouse.com). The first
technical specifications issued by the Open Security Exchange address
interoperability between physical and cyber security technologies.
Membership in the Open Security Exchange is open to all qualified
organizations. For more information, please visit
